Johnny "The Orient Express" Chan is undoubtedly one of the greatest poker players ever. Having tying the record for the most WSOP bracelets won by a single person (the record of nine) and two of them being back to back WSOP main event wins (from 1987 and 1988. The only other person to do this was Doyle Brunson), he proves himself worthy of such status. Johnny also won these bracelets from various events, proving he is a well-rounded player. Besides being a record holding tournament player, Johnny is famous for being one of the best (if not the best) cash game player ever. Of course, Johnny wasn't always a top notch poker player. Originally from China, he didn't move to the US until 1968 to Phoenix, Arizona, and eventually moved to Houston, Texas where his family owned restaurants. Johnny went off to go to Houston University to learn about management, planning on picking up the family business, but he quit at the age of 21 because he was drawn to poker. He ended up moving out to Las Vegas to become a poker professional and had a horrible first year, going broke on multiple occasions from his lack of discipline and temper. He had to borrow money from his friends, max his credit cards, and even pawn off jewelry to keep himself a float. He also got various jobs such as a chef, dealer, and casino floor manager. But within time, Johnny became the accomplished poker professional we know today. A lot of people will recognize Johnny from his part in the popular movie Rounders, starring Matt Dameon. He played as himself, but acted as he was bluffed out of a pot by Matt. Currently, Johnny is a father of six, owns a million dollar estate in Vegas, has numerous Mercedes, and owns a fast-food franchise, but Chan still hopes that in the future, he will open his own casino.
