If you haven't heard of this guy, you must be living under a rock. Chris Moneymaker represents the dream of any new aspiring poker player; playing in a forty dollar satellite tournament over the internet and winning an entrance to another satellite tournament. Then winning that tournament giving him a seat into the 10k buy-in of the WSOP main event. Finally, making the final move and winning the WSOP! Who would have thought that this prior unknown poker player would come up from the bottom to win the WSOP in 2003, beating out a field of 839 players and winning 2.5 million dollars? On top of this, this was Chris's first live tournament. What a dream to live. Before Chris became a WSOP champion, he lived a fairly normal life. He went to the University of Tennessee, graduated with a degree in accounting, and began working two jobs; one as an accountant, another part-time in a restaurant. Of course, he was playing internet poker on the side because of the inspiration he got from the famous movie Rounders. When Chris won the satellite to the WSOP, he didn't have enough money to cover all the expenses of the trip and had to borrow money from his father Mike and his friend, David Gamble. In return, they would receive some of his winnings. Chris also donated a portion of his winnings to cancer research. In the future, Chris plans on using his money to get his daughter through college. Currently, Moneymaker is a spokesman for Pokerstars and is traveling around playing in big tournaments. Chris doesn't have ambitions to be the best poker player in the world, he just wants to be able to support his family. He does see himself going back to a normal job within time, but I, and I'm sure he, is a bit skeptical.
